World War II brought many technological advances, including radar, atomic power and the rise of the electronic computer. These early computers were  purpose-built monsters, capable of only a tiny fraction of today’s computing  power. Built of wood, wire, tubes and punch cards, these early 1940’s computers  laid the ground for modern computing hardware and software.
